Catching up

Sorry that it's been a while since I've posted....all 2 of you who read this blog.  Anyway, we did a lot of traveling this summer over the weekends.  I'll start with our trip to Lake Keuka in Upstate New York, where my aunt and uncle have a great little lake house.

Tenley was a little scared by Indie and Louie, the other two canine inhabitants that weekend.  But she did manage to show off her swimming skills nonetheless.  We had beautiful weather the first day, so we spent most of our time outside by the lake.  Bill and I took the rowboat out with Tenley, who loved being in a boat for the first time.  She also got some quality boat-time with Uncle Fred.

The second day was kind of rainy, which of course meant WINERIES.  We went to Dr. Frank's, whose namesake is famous in the fingerlakes for having proven that European varietals can survive in that region.  We were fans of the merlot and, of course, the Riesling.

Luckily, when we got back it had cleared up a bit, so we decided to go kayaking.  Bill and I kayaked all the way across Lake Keuka and back.  Just as we were heading back into the dock, Tenley got excited and swam out to greet us......jumped on Bill's kayaked and flipped him over.  Oh man, it was awesome.  I wish I had a picture of it!

Although it was a lot of driving to get there (5.5 hours each way), it was totally worth it.

Oh, and here's one last picture -- it's of our weekend's benefactors....Auntie M, Uncle Fred, Indie, and Louie.  Thanks, guys!

Ieisha's Visit

The other week I was really excited to get a call from Ieisha, who I worked with as a tutor at Project Northstar in DC.  Alas, Project Northstar ran out of funds and is now defunct, but thankfully Ieisha and I still stay in touch.

She came to town as part of a college tour -- I can't believe she is going to be a junior in high school next year!  We hung out for a while at my apartment and she got a chance to take Tenley out to the dog park with me.

When I first got Tenley, Ieisha recommended that we call her "Oreo"....but they seemed to get along well despite the different name.

RBC Eviction

In unfortunate news, Tenley is evicted from the Red Bandana Club when she attempts to eat her token membership paraphernalia.

Weekend in Connecticut

Everyone had a great time during our weekend in Connecticut visiting "the guys."  Beer pong -- ahem, Beirut -- was played, football games were won (though, sadly, not by Bill), and lobster rolls were thoroughly enjoyed.  Unlike in some past years visiting Bill's high school buddies, this year the weather was perfect!

All in all, Tenley was a hit....though she did take a special liking to Tara's leg and Adam's crotch, which they were both really nice about.  Sam's house was under construction, which made it fun for Tenley to run around and explore.

On Saturday, she -- finally! -- learned to swim.  Sam's grandparents have a pool and Tenley loved that she could step in slowly.  At first she'd splash the water with her paws, try to eat the splashes....and then she'd lose momentum and start to sink.  But after a few minutes, she figured it out and found her calling in life.

One special moment came when Sam's grandparents came out to ask us if we needed anything and Tenley ran out of the pool to poop on the lawn.  I said, "yes a plastic bag would be great."   I'm really hope they didn't see why I needed one.

Sadly, Tenley's new swimming skill did not diminish her love for bathtubs.

Tenley tries to swim

I'm not sure if I've talked about this before, but Tenley has some issues ("got some 'ssues") regarding her water dog traits.  It's like she really wants to swim, but just doesn't quite know how.  When we were in DC the other weekend, she thought seriously about swimming in the hotel pool (which was actually prohibited anyway).  She ended up chickening out, though....instead, she opted for the much shallower and safer option of the hotel bathroom's jacuzzi.
